high school cafeteria memories.

Almost everyone is familiar with high school cafeteria food. Some remember it is a bland tasteless mass. Not this kid. You see, I brown bagged it through my high school years. Buddig lunch meat, bag chips and Little Debbie snack cakes. Ugh. So a hot meal is a sort of warm blanket I can wrap myself in. Like cookie said in the movie City Slickers, we don't serve no nouveau french cuisine here, just brown, hot and plenty of it. Wah-friggin-hoo. Cookie forgot one thing though, its 100 times better if it is a la cheap. intro stage left- the dining facility, d-fac for short and a lifelong dream realized.
For the low low price of $4.25 for lunch and dinner and $2.30 for breakfast, don't ask, I don't know why not $2.25 or $2.50, maybe they like nickels, one can get a full course hot meal. That's right salad, soup, entree or grilled item (burger, chicken, cold cut sandwich) including sides, bread, drink (rootbeer on tap), dessert, coffee, ice cream and the fixings. Bless you once again Uncle Sam. Cafeteria food at its finest. I'm going to definitely have to start hitting the gym and taking the long way to walk to work otherwise an errant walrus spear might be headed my way and rightfully so. Self control don't fail me now.

Above was my lunch for today. Baked White Fish in Dill Sauce, mixed veg, wild grain rice and brussel sprouts done perfectly, not charred like my wife likes them. Salad, cottage cheese, tuna noodle salad, pea salad, a corn muffin and a rootbeer. Yep, $4.25. Brad, Mike, Kent and John, tell the hospital to smooch my frozen tush. Oh, I forgot the ice cream cone on the way out for the -43 degree walk to the office to catch up on these blogs. Just kidding. I skipped dessert. I didn't have any room for it.
