Better at soldiering than golfing :)

Saturday was our inaugural golf tournament. We don't have a course, so we partnered with the Apple Valley Course. It was a 4 man captains choice affair and the weather was excellent. The big prize was a hole in one car on hole 10.
We had almost 30 teams.

Garrison Commanders Wife, Mrs. Pinkerton.

The car sponsored for the hole in one shot. No one won it. Par 3, 222 yards.
Someone did shank a ball back and dent it though.

Garrison Commander.

You can just barely see the dent.

TUSASS

On Wednesday 15 August, FMWR sponsored The United States Army SOLDIER SHOW. TUSASS is a collection of active duty soldiers with talent that travel the world bringing entertainment to army garrisons. Their motto, "Soldiers entertaining soldiers." This year's theme was changed at the last minute to "Army Strong". To me, the change was a great decision. Last year it was 'carnival' which was a cool show, but it didn't give me the goosebumps that this year's show did. having been a soldier and working for them for the last 13 years, I have a special affinity for what these soldiers do and anything that recognizes their sacrifice and celebrates their heroism is alright by me. As the special events guy, this one was mine to organize, but it was pretty easy since they do most of the hard part, the production. We provided them 10 soldiers and they put up an amzaing set and light production. We had planned on approximately 600 to 800 people for the show but almost 1200 showed up. It was standing room only and almost 200 people decided to leave instead of fight the crowd.

General Ferrell presents them a pic of the Painted Rocks, an Irwin icon. The Arts and Crafts shop put it together for us.

The local VA home brought in a couple dozen vets, half in chairs. They were clapping and dancing and smiling. That's plenty good enough for me to call it a success.

Here are the performers with the Ms. Barstow and Ms. Teen Barstow.

They're Army Strong and they know it.

Spraypark and Aerobics Center

Not too long ago I wrote about our spraypark, well here are a few pictures of it as it grows along with our new aerobics center.
you can see the pad in this pic, not big but it should
be a lot of fun for the crumbsnatchers.

Little ticket and snack shack

bobcat, I wanna play!!

new aerobics center

small area with the low roof will likely be our dedicated spin room

Gonna put a picnic table under the tree for folks to enjoy the outdoors in the non summer months

Punched in the face by the truth

I recently started a diet. I am trying to eat 'more' paleo again. Hard to do in the land of the flour tortilla, which I very much like. You know how flat bread can turn any meal into an occasion. Finger foods are so much fun. Anyway, I am also trying to do intermittent fasting windows. Typically these are during the week, I have a light breakfast of coffee, skip lunch and then eat a sensible dinner before 7pm in the hopes of going into ketosis during the day and working out while in a fasted state. I know, it's all so complicated. Not really though. Starbucks for breakfast, gym at lunch, dinner at a restaurant and cut out the carby side. That's how it typically breaks down, well not really. So I was feeling that I was doing rather well on the above plan and then I made it home during the light of day after my hour commute, walked into the kitchen and the sunlight was shining in bright and objective and truth filled......I suck......down a lot of late night ice cream. Damn you Ben. Damn you Jerry. How dare you tempt me so often. Especially with your yummy combinations. Not fair.

I decided I wanted to find my pipe among my household goods the other day. I get flustered from time to time when I lose stuff I know I own. I found it but decided I wanted another one on a lark, so hit up the smoke shop. I've also decided since no one has whined about my beard yet, i'm going to grow it for awhile longer and see what comes of it. So here is a shot from the other night playing with the camera. I loaded another one on Facebook and got a fair amount of positive feedback, so I'm encouraged to go big.

a treatise on the midafternoon nap

Last weekend, I had another 3 day. This one, however, was much less exciting than the last. It of course started with great intentions, cleaning the house, finishing unpacking everything, sorting through it, throwing out the unwanted, unneeded stuff. Trimming down my entourage of things that complicate my life. Yeah right. I woke early Friday, sore and stiff from the gym the day before. I had done shrugs, too many shrugs and the muscles of my neck were tight causing a headache. I took some meds and lay back down until lunch. Whoops. I got up and headed to the little diner on the end of Route 66 that was on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. I devoured their signature burger and headed to Victorville to see the new Batman. I did a littel shopping then back home for another nap before dinner. 2 naps, 1 day. Saturday, I felt like being lazy, but I had agreed to help Tony move, a block. He really bought a house a block from the one he rented. He needed help with the big stuff; a couple couches, some tables, nothing much really. We knocked it out, ate a pulled beef lunch and then I headed home for....a nap. Heck yeah. Then dinner and into bed after a little tv. Sunday, I knew I had to get some stuff done. Had to clean bathrooms and do laundry at a minimum. I stopped by the grocery and picked up some scrubbing bubbles to help with the hard water we deal with in Helendale. I sprayed the shower down, sprayed the toilet down, sprayed the counter down, and while it soaked I layed down to wait a few minutes......you guessed it, fell asleep. This one only lasted an hour. I got up scrubbed the scrubbing bubbles off, dried and polished everything and grabbed lunch. Came ack, threw in a load of laundry and lay down to wait for it to finish washing. Yep. Another nap. Woke up with a string of drool out of the corner of my mouth. Yummy. I finished up the load of laundry, went and grabbed some ice cream and called it a day. I guess I may have gotten caught up on my rest. I'm going to go lay down to think about it.
