Random Cali pics and Mousehaven

Squinting into the sun on a morning walk around the lake near my house. It was a balmy 48 degrees the morning I took this, which explains the beanie. Thanks Zac for the gamecock paraphenalia.

An empty sand person house on the south lake. If you know a sand person or jawa looking for a new abode, this one is pretty funky.

We are allowed to doodle in the Army class I'm in at Shades of Green. I drew the image and Britt colored it in.

A bit of WOW! on the nametag.

We hit the Polynesian the first night here. This beauty is called a lapu lapu. Tropical fruit juices and rum. Yummy.

Polynesian dinner. The best Cali rolls I've had, the tuna poke was amazing too.

Turkeys on the grounds of the Shades of Green.

We went on "the Business Behind the Magic" Tour at WDW yesterday for a few hours. We went to the laundry, the "cast" areas and to the underworld below the Magic Kingdom. It was really cool to see the huge mundane daily logistics they have to deal with to get the 64000 employees all working in harmony to put on the show.

This is our class group. We've got folks from Cali, Kentucky, Georgia, New Mexico and Korea.

Around the lake

My recent workouts have involved walking around the lakes in Helendale, either 3 or 5 mile loops, plus doing squats, pushups, pullups and hitting the fitness equipment along the walkway. It's so nice early in the morning. this morning, I woke at 5 and did 3 miles getting home just as the sun was rising. Beautiful. 60 degrees, light breeze, ear buds in, awesome.

This is without a doubt the best fitting ghd I've ever used, almost as if it was made just for me and only 1/4 mile from the front door. Lower Back, you should be afraid, very afraid.

My phone doesn't do it justice, but the sun was creeping over the mountains and doing the fades rainbow thing. It was gorgeous.

I decided sushi was going to be dinner the other night, so I hoofed it down the lake a half mile to Red mango and got the Nigiri plate and seaweed salad. Pretty darn good. One or two pieces were a bit dry but what do you expect for a sushi place in a town of only 5000.

Day of Olympic proportions

Last Saturday was Fort Irwin's Month of the Military Child Celebration and Youth Olympics. I rolled in around 10am just in time to see the kids running the torch into the arena. My ODR guy put the rings backboard together earlier in the week. They had games and events (facepainting, ring toss, etc.) as well as the Presidential Fitness Challenge going on. Everyone seemed to be doing well, so I snuck off to my office for a few hours to try to catch up on some work stuff. Turning into a workaholic?! Don't believe the hype. I'd prefer to be toiling in a garden or out playing in the woods over work any day.

A volkswagen by any other name

On one of my morning walks recently, I noticed this beauty parked. I stopped to drool for a few moments. I suddenly realized, this was my former Boss's car. He has too much money from living overseas for most of his career.
I sent a text to Bradford back at Fort Jackson this morning. he told me was converting a van to a camper. I told him I was converting my new car to a camper also. Porsche camper. I doubt I could lay down in this thing. It's still pretty though.
